Extended Family Photography at Lakewood Park
When cousins get together, you know it’s going to be a great time.
Some of my favorite sessions are the ones where multiple generations come together—grandparents, children, cousins, siblings—everyone in one place, celebrating family. Recently, I had the honor of photographing a beautiful extended family at Lakewood Park before a big transition: the family’s beloved patriarch and matriarch were preparing to move out of the country.
It was the perfect time to gather, laugh, and capture memories in one of the most scenic spots along Lake Erie.

Why Extended Family Sessions Matter
As families grow and spread out, it’s not often that everyone gets the chance to be together in one place. That’s what makes extended family photography so special. These sessions go beyond the traditional posed portraits—though we always get those frame-worthy shots for the wall—and include all the little in-between moments too.
During this session at Lakewood Park, the kids played together, climbed a big tree, and filled the afternoon with laughter. Cousins giggled side by side, siblings shared hugs, and the grandparents enjoyed simply watching it all unfold. Those candid, joy-filled moments are just as important as the classic posed images.
A Blend of Posed and Candid Memories
For this family, we made sure to capture a mix of traditional group photos—perfect for holiday cards or hanging above the fireplace—and candid lifestyle shots that showed off their personalities. The children climbing the tree, the quick bursts of laughter, and the quiet moments between parents and kids made the gallery feel full of life and love.
The result? A collection of images that each family unit could treasure and share in their own way. Some photos will live in frames for decades, while others are destined for social media, capturing the spirit of that joyful afternoon by the lake.
And one for destined for a frame.
Why Families Love Lakewood Park
Located right on the Lake Erie shoreline, Lakewood Park is one of Northeast Ohio’s most popular gathering places. With its open green spaces, shaded trees, and iconic Solstice Steps, it offers plenty of variety for extended family photography. Kids can play and explore, adults can relax, and the lake provides a timeless backdrop that feels both natural and grand.
For this family, Lakewood Park gave us the perfect setting to balance posed portraits with candid memories—an easy, beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.
